  • It's a wrap! #PostdocAppreciationWeek 2024 is coming to an end, and we absolutely enjoyed this week! As in previous years, we were thrilled by all the contributions & hope that we were able to help #postdocs feel a bit more appreciated within the German academic system. While we, of course, hope postdocs feel valued for their contributions to science and their critical role in the system every day, we also know there’s still a lot of work to be done! 🙏 To all event organizers: We would particularly like to thank all organizations, trainers, networks, and science managers who contributed to this program. Perhaps this is a good moment to remind everyone that Sept. 25th is #ResearchAdministratorDay. Kudos to all the science managers supporting postdocs in Germany! We have met so many truly inspiring and highly motivated science managers who strive daily to make a difference for postdocs — often on limited-time contracts themselves, facing basic challenges like not being able to secure email addresses for their postdocs. 💬 In-person meetings & postdoc networks We are happy to see that Postdoc Networks actively utilized #PAWde to connect with their peers. This included sessions on Postdoc Surveys by Leibniz PostDoc Network & Max Planck PostdocNet or an event by the Network of Postdoc Representations, as well as the Kick-Off of the German Postdoc Network! In-person events, including Postdoc Nights in #Munich and #Hamburg, as well as events in #Heidelberg, #Göttingen, #Cologne, #Potsdam, #Hanover, #Düsseldorf, #Münster & #Karlsruhe brought postdocs together across the country. 🌟 We would like to extend our thanks to all scientists, networks & institutions who made us of the PAWde to recognize & appreciate their postdocs via videos & post series including Prof. Dr. Benjamin Burkhard's video (on X) Dr. Chandni Natalia Kumar's video for the Munich Postdoc Network Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) CEPLAS - Cluster of Excellence on Plant Sciences Junior Scientist and International Researcher Center, HHU Paul-Langerhans-Institut Dresden of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD e.V.) Leibniz-Institut für Gemüse- und Zierpflanzenbau (IGZ) Jena School for Microbial Communication TH Köln Helmholtz-Zentrum Potsdam - Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum GFZ Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen Electric Energy Storage Systems Group - Leibniz Universität Hannover - IfES EES 🤩 We also particularly appreciate that Research in Germany, Kooperationsstelle EU der Wissenschaftsorganisationen (KoWi), Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation, German Scholars Organization e.V. (GSO), Deutscher Hochschulverband (DHV) & many other organizations are supporting this initiative! Across the borders, we would like to thank the PostDoc Office in Graz and EURAXESS Luxembourg for keeping an eye on our activities!

  • Now is the time to start planning your social media campaign 🗓️ This year again, we're aiming to make PAW a memorable event on LinkedIn, and we want you to be a part of it! Whether you're a postdoc, professor, PI, science manager, or part of an institution or network, there's something for everyone in celebrating the incredible contributions by postdocs to research and innovation. 📣 Professors and Principal Investigators, take this opportunity to publicly express your appreciation and support for your postdocs. Your words can inspire and motivate! 📣 Postdocs, share your unique experiences and challenges of working in Germany. We want to hear your stories, insights and hopes for the future. 📣 We also call on coordinators, funding agencies, networks - join us in sharing successes and tackling the challenges postdocs face! You would like to participate in the social media campaign? This is how: 🌟 Feature postdocs introducing themselves and their research on your institution's LinkedIn account! 🌟 Research group leaders, highlight the achievements of your postdocs to showcase their important contributions! 🌟 Remember, we'll be actively engaging with your posts - liking, sharing and promoting your content throughout PAW! For access to our campaign materials such as banners and posters, please contact us at paw-germany@gast.gwdg.de. Let's join together to create a powerful wave of gratitude and recognition for our postdocs. We look forward to your amazing contributions! #PAW2025 #PostdocAppreciationWeek

  • 🏙️ Attention all Berlin-postdocs: ✅ On Nov. 22, you have the chance to join a (free) discussion by Anne Schreiter, Ph.D. on the topic: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲? The panel is part of a conference hosted by Universitätsallianz (UA) 11+ that brings together representatives from politics and academia in a creative space to discuss innovative funding and development opportunities, particularly for those academics who are in the early stages of their academic career, beyond the dual pattern of 'fixed-term versus permanent contracts.' ➡️ Program and registration: https://lnkd.in/dnUWzpDs

What do you think: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲? ✅On Nov 22, GSO Director Anne Schreiter, Ph.D. will discuss this topic on a panel at Universitätsallianz (UA) 11+. What would you like to hear about in the discussion? Let us know in the comments. You can also join the event (it's free) in #Berlin: ➡️ Program and registration: https://lnkd.in/dnUWzpDs ➡️ 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁: "The conference aims to gather representatives from politics and academia in a creative space to discuss innovative support and development opportunities beyond the binary thinking pattern of fixed-term versus permanent contracts. It focuses particularly on researchers in the early stages of their academic careers. Furthermore, European as well as international perspectives and practices are taken into consideration to showcase and discuss alternative approaches of academic support. How can working conditions in academia be improved, and how can university management and policymakers work together more effectively to achieve this? What alternative career paths are there, and how can the research and innovation activities of scientists in Germany be further promoted? What is there to learn from other countries regarding successful career development?" Maybe see you there!
